First, older generations are usually at holiday gatherings and want to talk and tell their stories (also pay attention to what they don’t say). Grab your plate of food, pull up a chair, and listen! Even better, take notes.

Secondly, winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) is the time to take advantage of the shorter days of daylight and indulge in the increased hours of darkness to get more sleep- and DREAM. Many cultures around the world like the Zulu in Southern Africa say the ancestors talk to us in our dreams. Again, listen and take notes.

Finally, bundle up in your woolen finest and take advantage of those crisp, clear winter nights and get in some old-fashioned stargazing. Ponder your place in the universe and as God’s unique creation. Realize that your ancestors, for hundreds, thousands of years gazed upon these very same stars!
